4 Trendy Opportunities

6A – Identifying Opportunities in Economic & Regulatory Trends Economic Opportunities : Renewable Energy Development and Infrastructure a)  As someone invested in sustainability and environmental issues, I have seen multiple studies that show high job creation and a desperate need for sustainable energy.   (b)  There are a plethora of reports and studies that show how much money and effort are being put into renewable  energy (sadly not enough yet), and I think there is plenty of opportunity for science minded people to make a huge difference. (c) Already most areas of the country use renewable energy for at least some of their energy load, and will be transitioning into more soon. (d) The need is so great that I think there is a huge demand for people to step in and utilize it. (e) I hope most people are able to see the need for this today, but my last job was working with an environmental nonprofit and I have been surround...

Troubled Times

5A – Identifying Local Opportunities I just moved from Fort Walton Beach to study here in Gainesville, and have been out of the loop for a few weeks so I checked in on the NWF Daily News. These are just a few of the things i missed out on. GUEST EDITORIAL: Let locals control beach smoking Link: https://infoweb-newsbank-com.lp.hscl.ufl.edu/apps/news/document-view?p=WORLDNEWS&t=pubname%3ANFDN3%21Northwest%2BFlorida%2BDaily%2BNews%2B%2528Fort%2BWalton%2BBeach%252C%2BFL%2529/year%3A2019%212019/mody%3A0122%21January%2B22&f=advanced&action=browse&format=text&docref=news/171280DE068A7040 A description of the story, in your own words This article is discussing new state legislature that proposes to ban smoking on public beaches. the author thinks that this is something that should be left to local authorities to decide. A description of the problem presented in the story Because the author is not writing about the dangers of smoking (which thankf...

The Peanut Butter Files

The Problem: When you get to the bottom of the peanut butter jar, it becomes more and more difficult to get any out of the jar without making a mess. This I think is a struggle that most people have had before, and especially for college students this is a problem likely to come up again. I think this need as been around as long as the PB, and anyone that buys the larger jars of it know it well. The Opportunity: There should be an updated container for peanut butter. One idea is that creamy peanut butter could come in tubes like tooth paste to be squeezed out before spread by a knife like normal. Customer Interviews: (I brought cupcakes to get people to talk, but it didn't work and I had to give them all away after the interviews) Mom and six year old - Used peanut butter often Were familiar with the bottom of the jar problem Liked the idea of a new delivery method, but worried about the consistency inside a tube (they use the fancy peanut butter you have to mix once...

My Mom's Forced Trial and Error - or That Time I was a Stubborn 4 Year Old

3A – Entrepreneurship Story This isn't really my story of entrepreneurship, nor is it one of traditional entrepreneurial process where a product is made and sold. If anything, I was the problem being solved by a creative innovator. Like most things in my life, the credit goes to my parents who dealt with my antics better can be expected. Even if this story isn't about making a product what group has to forge their own path and make something from nothing like parents? Most parents have to worry about teaching manners, communication, and love but few have to break the will of a stubborn four year old that goes on strike for six months. If that seems like a long time for toddler insubordination to last, let me just say my parents are kind and baby Paul was unreasonably hard to motivate.   The problem started in the small room I shared with my sister, Emily - two years older, and the toys we left out after play. I say "we" but she cleaned up her share and then m...

20 Things that drive me a little crazy (Clickbait?)

2A – Bug List These 20 things come up more often than I'd want and usually make me upset. The explanation for each is under the complaint, and is sure to make me look petty. Buying textbooks and supplies for classes is a hassle. Each class needs different things, many of which have to be bought in multiple ways to avoid spending too much money. My microwave beeps four times upon finishing its cycle, and there is no way to cut off or stop the beeps if you let the timer end. The beep is used to make sure the user doesn’t forget their food in the microwave. Learning more about politics has made me less happy, but I know enough now that I can’t let myself ignore it. News isn’t always good, but being informed is the only way to change it. I have too much stuff, so moving into and organizing an apartment was frustrating. While there is a reason for why I have all of it, some of my clothes and clutter don’t get used ofte...
